Yuanda Australia’s expertise resolves multiple technical challenges on 60 Martin Place

Yuanda Australia has completed the design-in-principal for the 60 Martin Place project, working with the builder and building owner to overcome several challenges that remained unresolved.

Yuanda Australia General Manager Graham Romer said the company had drawn on all of the expertise acquired over more than 10 years in the Australian market to solve a number of key challenges on the project.

“Only Yuanda Australia had the experience and technical know-how to solve several technical challenges that remained on the project” Mr Romer said.

Yuanda Australia’s Technical Manager Gareth Winstanley said the building’s artistic and innovative design forced a rethink of the standard façade installation process.

“To make the panels fit, we effectively have to install them upside down – putting in the top half of each floor first, with the bottom half then fitted underneath,” Mr Winstanley said.

“This required a complete rethink of the installation techniques, weatherproofing and sealing.

“The project is also experiencing greater than normal movement of the building during construction works, which also presents a challenge to installing the façade.

“A façade won’t withstand the amount of movement that is occurring during construction, so we had to come up with a way of mounting the panels as the building takes shape, but then adjusting and tightening them once they are in situ.

“This hasn’t been done previously in this country, but Yuanda Australia was able to draw on its global experience and network of personnel to develop the right solution.”

Mr Romer said it was a pleasure for Yuanda Australia to be working with building owners Investa, who will be occupying the building once it was complete.

“They are keeping the building, and will be moving in.  They have a 30-year plan for their presence in 60 Martin Place, so are looking for a final product that will give them long-term performance and return on investment.

“Yuanda Australia is also planning for a long-term future in Australia, and we’re very proud to be helping bring this exciting development to life.”
